  1. Wireless protocols are identified by letters, A, B, G and N is the newest technology.  A wireless device is just ethernet without the cable and must comply with ethernet standards.  N is fastest now, while B is slowest.

N is typically NOT compatible with B and G.  A is not compatible with anything.

  2. all routers are fine for the most part and will be fine for you

The most standard routers use the same frequency as standard cordless phones ( they work together fine)

    b was the first , g is a souped up b

    ( is rated in the lab at 11 , g at 54)

However the comedy is that even the older b wireless routers go way faster than most people's broadband high speed internet

n is the newest ( and most expensive)

it works on a different frequency ( similar to the newer 5.8 cordless phones)

If a person buys a new computer with wonderfull vista then in many cases they have to buy a n wireless adapter

N works with the others ( b and g) and vice versa

Unless you have a n wireless adapter ( and even then ) there is no reason yet to splurge on the n router ( unless you are media streaming in your home)

Get a standard run of the mill g wireless router that is on sale

The router that you are looking for is both for a router and some special service with fido

I would recommend a standard router model - if you have questions it more run of the mill ,standard and less complex

the standard Linksys g wireless router has just had a name and exterior box change

    here it is

any of the standard g wireless routers should do fine

just make sure that they have toll free tech support for setup help if you need it
