I have just gotten a virus after I visted a site and I think the only way to fix my computer without paying is to restore it to its default settings. How do I do this and if there is any other way where I can keep my files and take out the virus plez tell me. Also I have a DELL and no restore disk.

  1. Use either of the free scanners below.

  2. Update your anti-virus, remember to only have one anti-virus installed on your PC

    Download SuperAntiSpyware

Restart your PC in safe mode, and run a full scan with both.

While in safe mode, you may also want to have a look at your start up items by using msconfig.

Be careful with the items you uncheck, you can have a look here to see if they are necessary

You should also have a look at your IE Add-ons while in safe mode.

Disable any you do not use.

After you reboot back to normal mode, download and install ccleaner to fix any registry problems and clean up old temp files.

  3. If you are concerned about having a virus, then I highly recommend that you install some up to date anti virus software and perform a scan.

IT sounds like buying some good anti virus software would be cheaper than having to reinstall your system. I recommend Kaspersky anti virus software myself.

  4. First of all what makes you think you have a virus? did you have pop ups that said so and needed to run a free scan they were offering.? If you did and you opened them yes, you do have viruses now

If you didn' t open them try going to system restore at  a earlier time before these pop ups started and if they(viruses) were never there to start with your computer will be clean and the pop ups gone.

If you did open them up then you need to get a virus program on your computer right away and let it do a boot scan.to get rid of them.
