Computer and laptop problem

Helloo.

i have a problem with my laptop and computer ,

computer is a vista home basic

laptop is windows xp pro , wireless enabled netgear connected

when the computer is on , and the laptop isnt then the internet works fine , but the mintute the laptop connects to the wireless router , the connection on the computer goes down to local only , and i can do nothing , all the websites i attempt to vist "time out" windows live messenger takes about 4-5 mins to give me a error message , when the laptop is on and the computer isnt the laptop still doesnt work , it has worked previous to this problem , our modem is from telewest broadband (virgin media) does anyone know of a soultion to this problem ?

You have not got you home hub or router set right with the laptop or viceversa.

Thats a tricky one. I'd start by checking all my settings in my router and my network settings on my laptop. Is your network  using DHCP? If not, perhaps your laptop is configured with the IP address or host name  as your computer therefore causing the problem?

On your laptop > network via start menu > right click the router > enable
