  1. Easy enough thing to build.

Decide on a case design and if kept simple without all the gizmos then lower price for the case.  You'll need enough bays for the drives you want to have later.  make sure has reasonable power supply included.

Now for motherboards two I know are very reliable and good performancve are Asus and Gigabyte.  I prefer the gigabyte but that's a personal choice.

Processors:  Either Intel or AMD are decent again I have a preference here for AMD.  I've bought AMD processors for over 15 years and used to sell more than Intel through my store.  AMD is usualy a little less expensive so shop around for a deal. Make sure the motherboard supports the processor you want.  Get processor with fan included.

For RAM there is little difference in makes so look for a reasonable price but buy from a decent dealer rather than the big stores as usually the compter shops have lower pricing.

Hard drives stick with name brand but for pricing Samsung was best performance per dollar.

For the dvd burner drive look to LG as the most common but if doing a lot of burning look at others as well.

Video I have long bought ATI simply decent products and some of the best tech support around along with site for downloading updated drivers for both O/S and software compatibility.  The All-In-Wonders are a little pricey but come with video software not available with regular cards.

Sound go for an upper line Sound Blaster which gives you surround sound if you want (for surround 5.1 or 6.1 or 7.1 speaker system required).

Keyboard and mouse...  buy what you want for good pricing.

    Have fun building and enjoy.

  2. Try this configuration out. don't know your budget so.

    Processor: Intel Core 2 Duo E4600, 2.4GHz

    Motherboard: XFX MG-630I-7109

    RAM: 2* 1GB Transcend DDR2-667MHZ

Hard DIsk: WD Caviar SE16 - 250GB SATA

    Graphics Card: XFX GeForce 8600GT - 256 MB DDR3

    Optical Drive: LG GSA-H55N

Hope this gives you a rough idea of what you want. Good luck in building your system.
