Last night I got an update message from McAfee saying I need to restart my computer to finalize the updates. So I restarted it & my monitor went black. The computer was still running but nothing was on my screen, it stayed like this until I shut it down the hard way. This morning I turned the computer on & same thing, it's running but my monitor is completely black. I did this two more times & nothings different. What do I do. HELP!

(I'm writing this on my husband's computer)

Thanks for any help!

  1. My computer in florida had the same problem the screen went black.  I hit it and it came back on after a few poundings.  It is probably the monitor doing this so get it checked out.

  2. Depending on your system, I think you should call Customer Service and tell them everything that happened. I'm not a big computer geek, so I can't give you a high-tech answer. If your computer is under warranty, tell them that, too.

    hope this helps.

  3. First of all . Please check the monitor's cable . It may loose accidently .

Does your monitor appear a flashing bar or completely black out ?

    -a flashing bar - resolve

Restart your machine and keep pressing F8 until computer appear some funtions to choose to start Windows .

    * Choose " Last Know Good Configurations " and press enter .

    _Completely black out -resolve

I assume the cable is loose or your desktop video resolution is too high , it wont fit with your monitor .

    * Try to turn off the monitor and turn it back on .

    * Take out the memory of your desktop and put it back on .

Hope it will solve your problem .

    Regards

  4. As your computer is booting, try tapping the F8 key and see if it will boot into safe mode. If you get to the screen wher it says 'use last known good configuration that worked' pick that option. Otherwise download the hirem boot disk but only use it if you are confident with what you are doing.

If all else fails, the data is still all there, so I would buy an external usb caddy and put your faulty drie in that. Connect it to your husbands, transfer all your pics, docs and everything else. Put it back into your machine and reinstall the operating system.

    Hope this helps

  5. need a bit more info,

does the monitor come on at all, meaning when you first power up, do you see anything like the HP or DELL type screen, then it goes black when entering windows?  If so it could be a driver issue, try tapping F8 every few seconds when you boot and then enter safe mode.  If that works it is most likely driver or resolution set to high.

If your monitor never gives you any screen at all, it could point to monitor. (most monitor will give you something when pressing the menu button on them.)

does the light on the monitor change at all?
