Hi everyone- I was wondering if someone could sggest to me what I need to look for when purchasing a new comp....

I'm a college student/mom, and going to buy new comp in the next month or so; most likely a laptop (but not rling out laptop)-- the things I'd be using it for- internet, word document (microsoft), youtubing, burning cds (the one I have now doesn't have dual cd drives so how do i make sure the new one has it)...have a pile of new zipdisks school gave me, which would be somewhat convenient, but how can i be sure the new system can accomodate zips....i'm mainly looking for a cheap comp that will last a few years (walmart, dell, ebay, etc; looking to spend no more than 500)....can anyone tell me what to look for, or post links to suggested comps? thanks for all help

  1. First place I would check is actually http://www.delloutlet.com and search for a laptop there.

Secondly, no laptop has dual CD drives, and it is not necessary to have them for CD copying.  All CD burning software can instruct you to remove the source CD and insert a blank CD.

Third, nothing co3mes with ZIP drives anymore, unless you are meaning USB drives (these work on any computer).

I would avoid buying from a bigbox store such as BestBuy until you look at delloutlet.com though.  You really don't need much for what you plan on doing, but you can get more for your money through there.

  2. At the very least I would look for a Dual core 2.4 GHZ. That is the speed.

I would make sure your have at least 2-3 GIGs of RAM.

ZIPS are like 8-tracks no one uses them anymore. You will be able to accommodate all your saving with the cd-burner.

Make sure your Primary CD burner is a Multi Layer DVD-RW so that you can burn a dvd if the need ever arises.

  3. Get at least 2 GB of ram
