Computer freezing before starting?

is there is something wrong with my laptop? when I turn it on, it freezes in the process

  1. Is it freezing part way into starting, and will go no further?  try tapping away at the F8 key (Function 8) as soon as you power it on. This might get you to the menu where you can choose Safe Mode, and then try starting it in that. Or try the Last Known Good Configuration, if it has that.

    This will let you get it going enough to run a good virus and spyware scan on it. For that you will need to download Avast!, Spybot and CCleaner. You can't do that in safe mode, so get it from the machine you are using now or a friend's machine. To transfer them, you may have to burn them to a CD, as you can get CD support with safe mode but not USB support for a thumb drive.

  2. This is most likely a hardware issue.  You need to take it to a computer repair shop and have them look at it.  It could also be caused by a virus or a broken hardware driver (software that makes a piece of hardware work).
