Computer games don't affect kids?

I mean if Pac Man affected us as kids, we'd all be running around in darkened rooms, munching pills and listening to repetitive music.

What's your opinion on this?

  1. LMAO!! Thats hilarious. I agree. When i was a kid, my sister and i were at the mall everyday cause my grandad owned a business there and we were always in the arcade and the lady always gave us free games of pac man. BUt yet i have never " munched pills  and listen to repetitive music. :) LOL

These days tho, i think the only thing it does is keep the children inside playing games all day when they should be outside enjoying themselves and getting exercise.

  2. Pac Man is not nearly as violent as some of the games kids play today. Kids are playing Grand Theft Auto, DOOM, Final Fantasy, etc.

Also, a lot of kids are actually addicted to the games they play. If we had become addicted to Pac Man it would have affected us as well.

Age appropriate games in moderation are not harmful.

  3. You are totally right. Kids aren't stupid, and they know that games are pretend. I don't know why people have to assign such harsh words as 'addiction' to the joy of playing video games.

Addiction means that there is a chemical change in the body when the substance is applied. Kids choose to play video games because either 1) there's nothing more fun to do or 2) because they are so limited in time on the game that they cram in as much as they can in the time alloted. Kind of like people on Yahoo! Answers.

    teehee!

  4. lol

i dont think video games affect kids. me and my dad play our own form of "true crime" where we run over people. that doesnt mean i want to run over people in real life. i've also played desert storm type games. that doesnt make me want to shoot people.

  5. People need something else to blame to aviod the actual truth that its there faults. I've played some violent games from Grand Theft Auto9all of them) to this one called Manhunt. Yea there violent but guess what..once you turn the power button off the games over and everything is left with the controller.

If your kid goes crazy they were already mentally unstable.

  6. it all depends on the game.  They have proven without a doubt that violent computer/video games desensitize children to violence, and make them more apt to commit violence themselves.  You can hardly compare Pac Man with Mortal Combat.

  7. The simple answer is that parents just need another scapegoat for their lack of involvement with parenting. I mean if you are a halfway decent parent your kids should already know never to emulate what they are doing in the video games.

  8. Well when I was a kid they said our music was corrupting us! I listened to Ozzy, Kiss, Gun & Roses, Ac/dc, you know all the evil bands! Well I grew up fine and so did my friends! Every generation wants to blame something for the problems we have. If your parents raise you right, you grow up right! That's my opinion!

  9. I think it depends on age, what they think is real and fake, and if they want to be that person in the game. I know between real and fake so i don't try to act like people in games.
