Question:

Computer goes to blank screen...

I have Windows XP Home Edition and this just started happening recently.

After that screen with the logo and blue bar, it goes to the screen that lets you choose options like Safe Mode. The problem is all of these options lead to a blank screen and Safe Mode freezes at that long list(I've waited for half an hour and nothing happened).

How can I fix this?

  1. Do a Repair install of XP from your Windows XP CD-ROM as the person above me said. Personally I'd prefer a clean install of XP onto a freshly formatted and partitioned HDD as you will then have a new Windows installation and your machine should run more effectively.

If you're still having problems you could be looking at an HDD failure, probably the commonest hardware problem on a PC.

  2. Pop your winXP Home Edition installer to your optical drive.

and follow the instruction to Repair windowsXP
