I've had my computer for about 6 or 7 years, about 3 years ago i got a new gamecard, but just recently no matter what game it plays, it randomly freezes up for about a minute or two. I have never had this happen before, what could be wrong?

  1. how long's it been since you did a reformat?

    [edit]

ok so operating systems age with time, particularly after a lot of software installations/removals. the most effective way to keep your system fresh is to reformat with some degree of regularity. if you havent done this for 6 or 7 years its long overdue.

What this involves, is backing up all your important documents, saved games, adress book, bookmarks, etc, then booting with your OS cd and reformatting then reinstalling. this is a relatively simple procedure and will eliminate the possibility of  a hardware issue. It will also make your machine run a lot smoother and more reliably.

This will erase everything on the machine, so you need to back up properly before you do it.
