Computer heating up?

ok i have been having problems with my pc heating up it was mainly my grafics card when i was playing multiplayer online games,im using speed fun althought i have an asus mother baord i coudent find the ticket for my setings anyway the main temp was at around 46 d when i took of the lid to install an extra fan the temp went down all the way to 42 d wich is quit good ,althoguth some people say the pc heats up more with lid of cuase the fans dont to the proper extraction function, anyway when i installed the new fan i was suprised it was even heating up even more than without the fan,,, couled this be beacuse the pc was already to hot and when i put the lid on there was to much heat for the fan to extract.. shouled i turn the pc of let it cool down and then put the lid on thanksss

  1. Clean out any dust.  Check heat sink for dust build up.
