okay so i have a dell windows 2000 computer

and i plug in my canon sd 1000 camera into it.

i know that dell windows 2000 has that thing where its compatible to canons, etc. automatically.

since months ago,

it hasnt been recognizing my canon camera!

it says, malfunction, widnows doesnt recognize it.

IVE TRIED EVERYTHING! and when i mean everything,

trust me sldkjfldfjldskf

it works on our other windows computer too in my dads office!

i THINK the reson it doesnt work on this computer, is because we just got a new dell fax/printer, and it worked before that, but then after, it just stopped recognizing that and my ipod.

it really pisses me off cuz its a painnn.

what happened wen my dad installed the printer?

did it make it to where it wont recognize a canon, etc.

does anybody know what happened or a way to fix this to where i can maybe go to the microsoft site and have them re idk!

SOMEONE please help me!

i cant take it any longer!

if you answer this, ill make you best answer and give you points or something, whatever you wanntt!!!

  1. USB is not as universally plug and play as we are led to believe.

Windows Service packs does go a long way to fixing these issues.

Once a device has been connected to a given USB port Windows assigns that port to that device. Moving the device to another USB port can cause the system to reinstall all the drivers for that device and assign system resources over again. This can result in resource/driver conflicts and  other issues.

Some USB printers are known to do this. Pen/flash drives on the other hand are very tolerant.

The easiest way to fix the device conflict would be to go to Device Manager and uninstall all your USB ports, your fax/printer and your camera, and then re-install your USB ports and your printer then your camera. Avoid using the same USB port for the printer and the camera.

Oh, by the way!  you can keep the points LOL
