Computer help?

I want to put a lot of security on my computers user accounts. I am the main account and i have 4 other for my family. i have windows vista home premium and i want to make it so they cant go on the hard drive, control panel, and the command prompt. i might even want to block a few of my programs to but the 3 above i definitely want to get done. i would like to do it free and by myself. any help is apprecieted. thanks.

  1. If you are the administrator you should be able to do anything you want with the other users.


  2. That is beyond myself; I didn't do it in my high school lab setup but another did; this calls for current professional MCSE level administrator I am only obsolete NT 4 level MCSE.

    But a complete blocking as you suggest involves tweaking registry. A change of Explorer.exe to Progman.exe was easy and I figured how but not applicable now.

  3. I'd run a Linux LiveCD for your kids (I assume it's about them, right?) That way, they won't be able to mess with anything. No viruses, no changed settings.

  4. lock down the Window+R command to open the run prompt aswell... with some quick research you can learn how tolaunch anything with a run command...

    Click Start, Control Panel, Administration tools (it's in the Security and Maintenance group), then Local Security Policy. Browse to Local Policies, Security Options

    inside there should be the tools you need already built into vista...
