I have the DCR-TRV350 NTSC Sony Camcorder and I am brand new at trying to upload videos to the computer to make a DVD. I don't have a FireWire, so I am trying to hook it up to the USB. I downloaded a driver for XP from the Sony website (http://esupport.sony.com/US/perl/swu-download.pl?mdl=DCRTRV350&upd_id=1452&os_id=7&ULA=YES) and ran setup after extracting it. I then restarted my computer like it said but still nothing's happening after I plug in my camcorcer and turn it on to VCR mode.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

  1. If you give the support site a good read & peruse the resolved answers you will realize you need a FIREWIRE/iLink connection!! THERE IS NO OTHER WAY!! USB is for transfering photos from the memory stick and for video streaming as a webcam. So you need a firewire cable & firewire hardware for your PC.

  2. If you have a mini dv (cassette) camcorder….

Your dv camcorder needs a firewire connection (ieee 1394) in order to download video, your PC probably did not come with a firewire port, so you will have to buy one and install it, since most computers (except possibly brand new) don't come with a firewire port, your camcorder did not come with a firewire cord so you have to purchase a cord too. Your camcorder did come with a USB cord and that is used for downloading stills from your camcorder. Make sure your camera is in playback mode.
