  1. It may be cheaper and less headache to replace the 24" Acer with an HDTV LCD TV as all the connections will be at the monitor.  It is possible to do as you propose, but you'll have to check the documentation on both the Cablebox and Tuner Card to make sure you have compatible connectors(VGA/RGB, DVI-D or HDMI inputs) or have to deal with convertor connectors.

  2. The problem doing that way is:

    1. Audio - you would need a surround receiver for that.

    2. You can't turn on and off the monitor like you would do with a regular HDTV.

There are devices that can turn the Computer Monitor into a TV or HDTV. But the Picture Quality is not going to be the same as you would get with HDTV. If you to any electric stores you can get 19.10 widescreen HDTV with VGA to PC connector. That's I use also where I have only a laptop nearby. Perfect for desk usage. I know some people who have the 26 and the 32" on their desk to use a PC monitor and to get HDTV. They work but the 32" is really huge on the desktop.

The smaller sizes are 19.10 and 22.10. Circuit City and Wal-Mart have these. Price is about the same around $248 for the 15.4 and 19.10 $298. You get HDTV and Computer Monitor with component video, HDMI connection dolby digital output and most of all VGA for the PC.
