Computer monitor not running?

Ive got my 4 year old copaq Presario, and tried running it with my new hard drive. the screen came on and i had an error mssg asking for the cpu fan to be connected i went opps turned computer off and then connected the fan. i then turned the computer back on but the monitor didnt work. im not entirely sure what is the problem has the motherboard snuffed it?

No, it may be the graphic card. Does the green light come on. If not try a another monitor.
