Question:

Computer not finding speaker connection

by  |  earlier

I get nothing but static from my speakers. The speaker is plugged into the green jack, and they have power (red light turns on). In the control panel on my computer it says "no playback devices."

The speakers do work... I plugged them into a different computer and sound played.

I've had this problem since my computer was fixed by an IT guy at my school for a virus. Since then, no sound. My computer does, however, randomly beep... even when the speakers aren't on.

help?!?!

  1. It might be the IT guy fixed your virus problem by formatting the drive and reinstalling Windows. This gets rid of the virus, but also gets rid of everything else. Every device in your computer needs a driver so Windows understands how to use it. When you install Windows, it comes with a lot, but certainly not all, drivers. The solution is likely to go to the website of your computer's manufacturer, and download the audio driver for your specific model. If you have a custom built, or 'no-name' computer, you'll need to find the manufacturer and model of your motherboard (Usually requires removing the cover, and visually looking at the main board), and download the drivers from the Motherboard manufacturer's website.

The beeping is likely coming from a small speaker inside the computer. It's a thowback from the olden times of computers, and is used for simple beeps, like when you turn the computer on, or there is some sort of problem, and an audio device isn't functioning properly.
