My computer is running very slowly and when it turns on my background says that spyware has been detected and I need to download something to clean my computer. What should I do about this, my computer is an HP with Windows XP.

That popup is spyware.

Go to www.trendmicro.com and run Housecall.  It will scan your computer for viruses and spyware, and remove them, for free.

Try the lavasoft site and use their free adware, spyware, malware scanner.

Try To Do Your System Recovery.....It Makes It Way Faster....But It Erasses Your Documents And Intalled Games, ETC....

Start>All Programs>PcHelp&Tools>Hp Pc System Recovery

Install what is says and search disk defragmenter. Also delete anything you don't need and uninstall every program you don't need.
