Computer problem in windows XP SP2?

Question

When i start my computer, before showing the welcome screen, a screen comes with the text 'lsdelete program not found- skipping AUTOCHECK' . then the welcome screen appears. moreover, the search companion is empty. and user accounts page is also empty. Can anyone give a remedy other than system restore or formatting hard disk?

Why not System Restore? If you haven't tried it you should it doesn't delete anything. If you have tried it and it failed then you are out of luck. System Restore isn't your protection against Data loss, backups are.
