when I go to turn on my computer it goes to a screen that says 'we apologize for the inconvenience, but windows did not start successfully.' then it says some other things and gives me options like safe mode, start windows normally, ex. when I press one it seems like windows it starting up normally (the regular screen comes up) but no matter which one I pick it takes me to a blue screen that says, 'a problem has been detected and windows has been shut down to prevent damage. UNMOUNTABLE_BOOT_VOLUME

it says to disable BIOS memory options such as caching or shadowing, ex. and it says to use safe mode but it doesn't let me.

it gives me this code at the bottom...***STOP: 0x000000ED (0x81AC7A68, 0XC0000006. 0X00000000, 0X00000000)

also after I pass the screen where it give me the options like safe mode and starting normally it seems like my keyboard isn't responding when I press it. I don't have anykind of CD's it came with, the computer is about 7 years old. could it be a virus maybe? I really don't know what to do and I don't have money to take it to get fixed. please someone help!!!

(by the way the computer is a dell desktops that runs with windows xp)

  1. This is why the very first thing one should do with a new computer is wipe out the hard drive and restore it - to be certain you have all the media to do so.

Chances are your 25 character Windows Setup key is on the bottom/back of the box. Change the BIOS (<F2> at startup) to boot first from the optical drive, and borrow someone's XP disc, and choose R for Repair at the menu that shows up.

Borrowing a disc is fine, borrowing a Setup key is not.

  2. re-instal windows and if that doesnt work call the geek squad
