Computer programs?

Does it hurt to remove computer programs such as security updates for windows if they were installed 2 years ago and I neveer use them and I have installed windows 7 with security updates?

  1. Your Operating System Uses them.

    They are critical to the smooth running of your Operating System.  Technically you can remove them, but that would be like removing one of the wires from your auto distributor.  It will still run, but not as well.

    In summation....definatally > I would NOT.

  2. Never remove any old security updates. If they have been superceded by a newer version of Internet Explorer or a Service Pack, then the files have already been updated anyway. The only way they are taking up space is by being in the list of installed programs. No big deal.

    You may find a lot of hidden folders under C:\Windows however. These contain the uninstall info for most of those updates. If your system is running fine, you can delete those hidden folders, which will free up a lot of disk space.
