Computer question about programs an apple macbook?

I have an apple macbook and i was wondering if you can download windows live messenger or do you actually need windows or microsoft?

If you like to run windows programs you might consider purchasing a parallel desktop and installing windows XP. I have it on mine and when I launch my parallel it's like having a regular PC right in my MAC. very convenient. :)
