Binary as a number base has been known for centuries, I'm sure. However I recall that the person who first suggested its use in computer architectures was John von Neumann, a genius theoretician and one of the founders of modern computer science along with Alan Turing.

Also, 101010 + 111111 = 42 + 63 = 105 = 1101001.

The concept of binary even if not recognised as 1s and 0s has been around ever since there has been a differentiation between 'Yes' and 'No' and any other pair that indicates opposites.
