  1. u need a new screen

  2. Is this monitor a CRT (big and heavy) or a flat panel monitor?

From what you described, it sounds like a CRT.  If that is the case, the monitor is probably on its last legs.  Many local governments have passed into law forbidding people/companies of disposing CRT monitors in their daily trash.  They contain hazardous material in them.  If you are going to replace this monitor and need to dispose of the old one, make sure you are doing it in a legal way.  I recommend donating it to Goodwill or the Salvation Army.

If this is an LCD, the video inverter board may be beginning to fail.  In this case, it is probably more cost effective to replace than to repair.

  3. I assume you checked both connections on the computer to your monitor? Other causes may be that your video card is going on it?  Or you need to update your driver to the video card? Go to control panel choose the system icon then the hardware tab then the device manager tab. Find your video card under the display adapters icon. Choose the driver tab and update driver. I know it's a lot to do but it may be a quick solution to your problem? Hope it helps.

  4. Sounds like an LCD controller board fault to me.
