  1. It sounds as if your video driver crapped out. You can probably update them through dell's website. Another possiblility is you have way to many processes open. Go to your start menu, go to Run, and type 'msconfig'  Go to the StartUp tab and Uncheck all unneccessary programs then restart.

  2. has it always did this? if it has id goto dell .com and download the new video drivers and the bios update. you need to keep your drivers updated:) and i would download avast antivirus and do a scan its free and better than avg. maybe a ram upgrade too

  3. number one, buy More ram 256 may be choking your computer with xp. 512 is a must. 1g is better. go to dell and download the service manual, will show you how to upgrade ram.

go to control panel under internet options  in browsing history click settings. change disk space use to 50, click ok, then click delete browsing history, click delete all. click ok, ok.

next click start, all programs, accessories, system tools, and disk cleanup. it will take a while. every box that comes up check, then delete.

ok system should run a bit better

google startup cpl great freeware control panel that will help manage auto start up applications. could be too much running at once with little memory

also download spy-bot from download.com and say yes for the 2 browser extensions, if a program tries to alter your start up, this will alert you, and ask if it should allow them to alter it, preventative measures for programs that install too much stuff

hope this helps. and get more memory.

  4. there are probably junk files accumulated in your computer.  So go start menu --> accessory --> systemtools --> and disk cleanup, also in the same folder try defragment your hard drive.  Also I suggest that you should upgrade your ram to at least 512 MB.  good luck!
