I have a samsung CD/DVDW SH-S182D re-writer in my computer and have had no problems up until this week , when I'm half way through burning a file before it goes to disk the computer shuts down as if its been switched off has anyone any ideas what it could be, the drivers are up to date and my device manager says its working as it should.

  1. Rubbish...run checkdisk HAHA

    Bullshyte!

    stop referring to non-solution!

Why running a chkdsk? you dont even know whats happening!

I presume you have windows, so use the very good "event log".

    Right click on my computer

    select manage

look for events and systems events.

Look for the one with a red cross that indicated a serious error. You also have the timestamp to help you, you will see a gap in time between the crash and the reboot.

  2. 1 Run CHKDSK, it restores missing files.

2 (vista) enter "sfc /scannow" into the run commands, it will scan  replacing any missing or corrupt system files back onto your computer, if your running Xp place the recovery cd into the tray.

  3. some software like that has a box to tick or untick that says if it's ticked it will shut down your pc when burning is done.

i have nero 8 and with nero it does have that option to tick so when my dvd is complete it will automatically shut down that pc.

have a look befor you get your knickers in a twist
