I have a problem where my computer sometimes won't power on, usually it will 80% of the time, but 20% of the time pressing the power button doesn't do anything. When the computer refuses to power on i have to press the restart button for it to turn on. I have the power switch properly connected to the motherboard on the correct pins. Could it be the power supply or the motherboard? More things i know about my computer:
The cpu has enough thermal grease, and the heatsink and fan are perfect (4200 rpm.).
The cpu is an Athlon XP 2700+ and its average temperature is 50 to 60 C on normal use, internet browsing word processing etc. sounds okay to me
I have cleaned the computer of all dust.
The power supply is an ANTEC brand pwr supply that came with the ANTEC chassis not sure about the model of the chassis. i have had many problems with these power suppliesI suspect that this is caused by the following in order of likeliness
a faulty power switch,
bad power supply,
maybe the cpu is overheating,
bad memory,
faulty motherboardThanks for your help in advance.
