The other day, my husbands desktop computer started up just fine as usual. He was using it as he normally would and about ten minutes into it, the computer shut down completely with no warning. Now it won't start up and no one can figure out why! Everything is connected as it should be, but it still won't start up. He's been clearing out space on it, so it has plenty of RAM. The operating system is a XP Home Edition and the computer is a Everex IMPACT GA3400. Is there anything we can do here at home to get it to work again?

  1. have you seen the bios? or heard a beep sound upon boot up? back again if you heard one and describe it.

  2. What do you mean by won't start up, do you mean that it has no power?

check make sure it plug in, avr or ups is turned on, some Computer has a off switch at the back of it near the fan, see if its turned off, make sure there are no loose cord, and finally try to smell the fan at the back of the computer see if it smell like something burnt.

  3. This is a most simple answer. Is the power switch on the back of the computer and the power bar (if any) turn on?

When you turn it on does the fan start? Do you gaet any beeps? We will need more info.

  4. Sometimes on the back of the cpu in the power supply it has an also a switch.

Check if the negative sign is push down or up. Click on it.
