Question:

Computer/virus help!?

Ok, there's this pop up that keeps coming on the screen telling me that my computer is vulnerable to viruses and might have some already. But when I went to get it fixed this program wanted to charge me $60!

Now is there anything that's already installed on my computer, or that can be installed for free that wil rectify this problem? I use Windows.

Thanks!

  1. It's rogue software that will only add to your problems rather than solve them and antivirus programs will NOT remove these as they are malicious codecs, although they may find reference to them and remove it but upon rebooting it's back again.

The following free programs will get rid of it as they have done successfully in hundreds of cases:

    Malwarebytes Anti-Malware:

    http://www.download.com/Malwarebytes-Ant...

Download, install, update and select Full Scan.

Remove all infections that it finds after scan.

    SmitFraud Removal

Firstly, download the removal tool from here:

    http://siri.urz.free.fr/Fix/SmitfraudFix...

    How to use:

    http://cotojo.wordpress.com/2007/08/24

    Spybot S&D:

    http://www.safer-networking.org/en/downl...

Download, install, update and Immunize, turn off Tea Timer then click 'Check for problems' then when complete select all and then 'Fix Checked'

Spyware Doctor Free Basic Edition - Realtime monitoring:

    http://pack.google.com/intl/en/pack_inst...

Its free with Google pack, untick all boxes except Spyware Doctor. Download install, update and run.

If your desktop has changed or icons are missing also use:

    Wallpaper Hijacker Removal Tool:

    http://www.majorgeeks.com/Wallpaper_Hija...

Note: You should hit all "Repair" buttons even though it may not say "Found!" This will fix a wallpaper hijack everytime if all repair buttons are pressed.

If the problem persists, turn OFF System Restore and scan with the above programs in Safe Mode, Right click My computer > select Properties > System Restore Tab > Tick Turn Off System restore on all drives.

After scans are complete and machine is clean remember to turn system restore back ON and create a new restore point.

  2. You could have something called Antivirus 2009. It takes up many names, example Antivirus 2008, Antivirus XP , Antivirus Vista 2009, etc.

Its a fake program that tries to scare you into buying a fake product.

It could be something else, but they are the symptoms of it. Norton Internet Security cleared it for me, but it costs. I heard SuperAntiSpyware is good as well, and its free. Look up on the subject. If it is that Antivirus thing, I wish you luck in getting rid of it, cause its a pretty annoying bugger.

  3. probably adware trying to get you to by their software

download and run something like malware bytes free version.

  4. Try a online virus scan here are some address to try Safety.Live.com...TrendMicro.com.. get some protection Comodo.com is offering a complete security suite free and yes they can be trusted if you want to do it yourself I recommend Avira.com along with Safer-Networking.org(spybot search&destory) or SpywareBlaster from majorgeeks.com or Lavasoft.com...MalwareBytes.org is another good one to consider althrough the last two don't offer free protection some even recommend two anti-spyware scanners just to be on the safe side the other bit of advice i have to offer is external firewalls they hardwire to the machine with usb or firewire hook up now thats cutting edge tech.Remember paid is usally better than free however since Comodo.com kind offer that may not be the case anymore

  5. Download and scan with the the following free software in order one by one, delete what ever they find should leave your PC free of infections:

    Malwarebytes: http://www.malwarebytes.org/mbam.php

    SuperAntispyware: http://www.download.com/SUPERAntiSpyware...

    SmitfraudFix: http://siri.geekstogo.com/SmitfraudFix.e...

    Avast Anti-Virus: http://www.download.com/Avast-Home-Editi...

Once you have removed the infections keep Avast and download Comodo Pro firewall, then switch to Firefox 3 if you are browsing with IE this should stop it returning. (links on my profile)

  6. What you have is spyware/malware.  Just run a couple of good anti spyware programs.  I use the following.

These two are probably the best and both are free.

    Adaware

    http://www.download.com/Ad-Aware-SE-Pers...

    Spybot S&D

    http://www.download.com/Spybot-Search-De...

  7. Most likely, that program IS a virus.  I recently had an issue with Antivirus XP 2008... I had to completely reformat my pc to get rid of it.

  8. Try installing http://www.cyber-defenders.com

The same thing happened to me, and my friend recommended it.  It did help a lot.

  9. my computer had a virus a few weeks ago too and my dad fixed it for me. but, there usually aren't any anti-virus programs for free, my dad got me a free anti-virus program for my computer because his job works with things like that. but, if you don't want to pay the money, try deleting all the internet history in your computer, also delete some of the programs on your computer that you don't recognize because some internet websites drop programs onto your computer that can have viruses. so try that and if your computer still has the virus after ward, you most likely will have to buy an anti-virus program if you want to save your computer

  10. This could be adware/spyware and not a virus. Check out the website below. Hope this helps.

  11. Sounds like you have a rouge antivirus program on your computer. These give you phonie results and try to scare you into buying their software. To remove go to microsofts home page, go to security and then click on the malicious software remover tool. This should work but if for some reason it doesn't install either avast! antispyware or avg home edition antispyware and run a scan. (Both are these are very good and are free)

  12. Reboot your computer to safe mode

    then use system restore

I tried it and it works!

  13. IS IT ANTIVIRUS XP 2008?

  14. Its a con dont listen to it. just use a pop up blocker and free softwrae like adware se and spybot search and destroy do the trick

  15. Use Kaspersky Internet security 2009...

I guess it will find it and block it...

But then too I advice you to search your problem in Google and use advanced steps...

    Thanks.

  16. newtron anti virus or service or firewall
