I think my computer has a virus or something. I went to turn on my computer and it went to this screen where it asked me if I wanted to start it normally or safe more. which ever I pick it goes to this blue screen a problem has been detected and windows has shut down to prevent damage to your computer. then it says to restart and I did and then it went back to the blue screen where it also says to press f8 to select advanced startup options then selesct safe mode. but once I get to this blue screen no matter what I press it stays there unless I turn it off. I can't go anywhere it won't let me go to my desktop or anything. windows starts up and then I get this blue screen. help? I dont know what to do.

  1. You may have a corrupted file that you need to fix, if thats the case, you will have to repair it using you Windows Installation disc. When this happened to me the "blue-screen" gave me prompts on what to do to fix it.

In your case it could be different to what i had.

  2. The dreaded Blue Screen Of Death or BSOD. Probably not a virus. This happens for a couple of different reasons, but the biggest reason is hardware malfunction. A lot of times It is Memory (RAM) related, sometimes it is hard drive, Video Card or Processor related - and in some cases it is software related. A BSOD happens when something in the computer isn't working correctly, and the system Shuts down to prevent data loss.

    Things to try:

    1. Re-seat your Memory, Video Card (if you have one) and re-seat the data cables on your hard drive.

    2. If that doesn't work try replacing your memory, or if you have 2 sticks of memory already, take one out at a time, and see if it will boot with just one or the other. If it does, it is a memory problem.

    3. If it still wont boot, you may try (assuming this is XP) to use the Windows XP disc, and do a Repair installation. I only recommend this as a last resort. You may want to have your friendly neighborhood computer geek take a look at it before you do that. Also you may want to have someone backup your data before you do that just in case you somehow wipe everything.

If you don't have anything worth saving, reinstall Windows. If it still doesn't boot, or if Windows doesn't install successfully, then there is some piece of hardware fried in the computer, and you will have to repair or replace it.

Remember: Most of the time BSODs are caused by bad RAM (memory) chips.

  3. Sounds like you'll have to reformat your hard drive. Try going to a local tech support place, there isn't much you can do.

  4. try this one first

turn off all the computer power  wait for 15 to 20 minutes to turn it on again

and it still have the blue screen call up the computer staff or the one the bought your computer. they can help you.
