Computer vista problem?

vista, intel core 2 quad processor, 2 gig ram, gateway, etc.

computer just shuts off, sometimes right after it boots, sometimes it's days before it does it, but once it shuts off it won't turn on after I push the power button, the button lights up, but won't boot. Then I give it 30 minutes or so and it will turn on just fine. I thought it might be overheating so I downloaded coretemp, the temps stay around 60, or lower.

Any help appreciated.

  1. This is a sing of failing hardware such as a motherboard, RAM, processor, anything that is used on boot. Don't take it to Geek Squad, but go to http://techhelpblog.webs.com/ they can help you with anything on a computer for free and they have free personal pc help through email, just tell them whats wrong and they will reply to you within 48 hours with an answer. 2. When you turn the power on, check to see if the fan on your power supply starts up. If it doesn't, then its your power supply overheating because the fan's cooked. If it gets too hot it will shut off. Get another power supply.

  3. Say it Mr. Frog

Vista doesn't have anything to do with it.  Most likely a bad psu

  4. Scan for malware, you can also enter 'mrt' into the run commands and scan for malware with windows

  5. Vista has nothing to do with this,I don't know why people on Vista posting any problem as the OS fault. Most likely is a dying power supply if your temps are OK.
