Question:

Computer will not start?

I put together a computer, everything should be hooked up right (I triple checked). The computer won't turn on though. No lights, fan, anything. It's just a dead box. I am guessing the some parts might be damaged. I guess that it could be the motherboard, or power supply, but would the computer still turn on (fans lights etc.) without the processor? also how can i check to see which parts, if any, are damaged?

  1. Sounds like the power supply.  You would at least get fans, lights, and perhaps beeps if the processor or motherboard was dead.  Though not always.  The power supply is the cheapest part, so I would start there.

  2. It's either the power supply box in the computer that's having a problem or your power supply outlet on the wall is not providing enough power.  Try plugging it into an outlet.

  3. Usually there's a switch at the back of your power supply unit (PSU). Certain manufacturers will have it defaulted to off, that's why nothing will ever happen should you press that ON button on your PC.

Try to flick the switch to the other side and see whether that changes anything.

Also check the wiring, especially those 2 pins wiring with labels like "HDD", "LED", etc...... Plugging them wrongly will not send a signal to your motherboard when you press that ON button.
