  1. Go to your control panel and there should be something that says "Power Options" or something to that effect. You can adjust settings here.

  2. Okay, first, click on the battery icon on your toolbar's system tray. You know the icon that shows the percentage of battery life, click that icon. Once clicked, you will probably see some power options. There should be a link that says "More power options". Click that link. Once you click the link, look at the side taskbar (to the left of the window) and there should be a link that says "Change when the computer sleeps". Click that link and on the bottom of the new page, there should be another link that says "Change advnaced power settings". Click that link, and at the new page, scroll down to "Powerbuttons and lid". If its not there, then scroll to anything with the word "lid" on it and click on the + sign to get the scroll-down options. When the scroll-down list pops up, you should see something that says "Lid close action" Click the + sign infront of that and another list should pop up. There should be two options that say "On battery: Do nothing" and "Plugged in: Do nothing". At this point, press "Do nothing" on both the "Pugged in" and "On battery" and a slide-down menu should pop up. When it pops up, choose "sleep" and click apply then ok. Now when you close the lid of your laptop, it should go to standby/sleep. If these options are "grayed-out" or cannot be clicked, scroll to the very top of the advanced power settings window and click the link that says "Change settings that are currently unavailable", then you should be able to altar the settings. Hope this helped!

Extra info: Make sure that BOTH of the options "On battery" and "Plugged in" have "Sleep" next to them. Then click APPLY, and OKAY.
