My computer is connected to a phone line. I want to be able to call others through that phone line. Is this possible? If yes what software do I need?

  1. Almost impossible to answer as you do not say where you are located, what phone system you are using, or whether it is analogue or ISDN (which does allow the use for two or three separate services).

  2. Yes it is possible with NCH Swift Sound telephone software.

    http://www.nch.com.au/phone/index.html

They have a full suite of telephone and VoIP software for interfacing your PC to the PSTN telephone network.

  3. Yes.

You need software, a phone voice modem, and a headset (mic + earphones).

Take a look at http://www.callclerk.com  for the software (I wrote it); more specifically http://www.callclerk.com/phone/hlpCallCl...

For the modem it depends on where you live. In the US and Canada try the aopen fm 56 px modem if you have a desktop running windows xp; see http://www.callclerk.com/phone/hlpCallCl...

    for more info.

    Cheers.
