My computor has a firewire port however device manager has no IEEE 1394. I am trying to connect a DV Canon Optura 20 to trasfer video and then edit it on WinDV of wondows movie maker. However neither program or my computor regognizes or does anything when I attach the firewire cable. The instructions say that I should just be able to plug it in and

something will pop up , or the programs should recognize it and allow me to"capture". I am not sure what to do I have downloaded various drivers that has made no difference.

Thanks

  1. try turning it on and setting the camera to the "preview" or "view" setting before plugging it in.

  2. Chances are that you are missing the drivers for the firewire port. Your best bet is to go to your motherboard's manufacturer website and download them.

  3. What sort of PC have you got?  Is the firewire port in the PCI card itself or is it built into the front of the case? It's possible that you've got a socket in the case but it's not connected to anything!
