Compuware NHL Premiere Series 2010: Colorado Avalanche win 3-2 against New Jersey Devils
The 2010 Compuware NHL Premiere Series saw New Jersey Devils play host to Colorado Avalanche. The game took place at the Prudential Centre this Friday, 15th October 2010.
It was the 48th game of the series. The crowd capacity was around 12,000 as the match began at 7:07 local time. The tight game was mostly dominated by the home team but they had to pay for not converting their chances into goals as Colorado Avalanche
won by 3-2 in the end.
1st Period:
The first 2-3 shots came from Avalanche which looked destined for the back of the net but they weren't meant to be. The Devils started to form plays of their own in response to these shots but they couldn’t convert any chances into goals. This worried not
only their Head Coach, John Maclean but also everybody else who supported them.
Avalanche got an open opportunity in the 12th minute and they unlike the Devils, scored to take the lead. Their goal-scorer was Cody McLoed who scored from 17 feet. After this, Devils attacked with even more force which resulted in Avalanche's
goal keeper facing shots from everywhere but he did well in not letting any get past him.
The period ended with the score being 1-0 in favour of Avalanche as they scored once out of their 3 goal attempts. The Devils couldn’t manage any goals despite their 17 goal attempts.
2nd Period:
The 2nd period saw both teams take on the defences and their offence break past the defensive lines. Although, initially both teams looked to take on each other with full force but then soon they realized that with this strategy they were cancelling
each other out. Therefore, Avalanche changed their game plan.
The result was spontaneous as Avalanche scored once again in the 12th minute. T.J Galiardi was the goal-scorer who hit a fantastic wrist off shot from 12 feet. After having established a 2 goal lead, Avalanche now wanted their defence to be tight
rather than the offence.
But, their lead didn’t last long as the home team scored in the 15th minute to cut down the chase. The goal was scored by Matt Taormina who hit a splendid slap off shots from 10 feet. At the end of 2nd period, the match score was 2-1 in favour
of Avalanche.
Avalanche and Devils had both scored once out of their 12 and 10 goal attempts, respectively.
3rd Period:
The last period saw the away team come out determined to win, score some more goals and not let the other team take the lead. With their backline strong, the offence was backed up to go for another goal in order to regain the 2 goal lead.
Avalanche scored in the 5th minute to take their lead to 3-1 with the goal coming off Chris Steward. The home team also scored through Ilya Kovalchuk from 33 feet via a snap off shot. This was the last goal of the match as Colorado Avalanche finally
won the game by 3-2.
During the final period, both teams scored one goal each with Avalanche making 7 goal attempts while Devils coming up with 16 such attempts.
