Question:

Concealer to cover acne/scars, redness around nose?

What concealers do you guys recommend for someone with some minor scarring from acne, the rare zit at times, redness and little veins around nose and with oily skin? Whenever I use concealer on my nose, I find that after a few hours it sort of melts from the oils and sits around my pores... and just makes my skin look way worse and blotchy. I also have problems with concealer at times oxidizing after long hours (so turning a bit darker, although it's not that noticeable). I'm fine with my dark circles, since I can use any concealer there or just foundation and not have to worry, but I'd like a nice concealer that will work REALLY well with oily skin and won't cause more blackheads, whiteheads or acne.

Price isn't a bit issue, although I'd rather not spend 40 dollars on concealer unless it lasts like 2 years. Any good department store brands would be best, such as from Sephora or maybe even MAC (I've been told there is a concealer by MAC that actually works on people with oily, acne prone skin without making them break out like crazy, and this claim honestly shocks me.)

any help would be greatly appreciated!

And also, for concealer brushes. the one I bought I think is too big and a big too rough.. What's a good reasonably priced brush (preferably under 20 dollars, no more than 25 Canadian) that is big enough for under your eyes but small enough for acne and scars? And that is soft enough. Anyone tried Stila's brush? Or that Wonder Brush by Urban Decay? both are in my price range but both seemed small for under the eyes.

  1. I use Almay Nearly Naked Liquid Make-up.

I have acne also, so I didn't want something that would make me break out. It turns out that this stuff actually contains vitamins and minerals that help your acne, and are good for your skin! It also contains SPF 15, if it's really sunny where you live.

It's very light, so you can't really tell you have make-up on. I've tried tons of foundations, and they all looked really heavy, and they made my face dry out. This stuff is really good. It lasts for a long time, I never have to re-apply throughout the day. I put it on before I go to school, and then I normally have four hours of gymnastics after that, so I get kind of sweaty and stuff, and it doesn't look any different at the end of the day.

Sometimes if I'm really tired at the end of the day, I forget to take my make-up off, and when I wake up, my face has never broken out or anything. It really is good for your skin. Also, some of your facial color shows through, so you don't have to use blush or bronzer. But it does cover up acne very well.

I know that they have this same product, but for oily skin. I don't have oily skin, so I've never tried it, but I know that the normal stuff is amazing! It's about $10-$15 at Shoppers Drug Mart, but I think it's around the same everywhere else. I just buy mine at Shoppers.

With this stuff, you don't need a brush, but anyways, I have a powder brush called Quo. It's pretty big, but it is very good. I've had it for quite a while and the ends aren't splitting or anything. And sorry, I have no idea what the price was, I bought it quite awhile ago. But it was probably pretty affordable because I don't buy very much expensive make-up or make-up tools.

Good luck, I highly recommend both. Hope I was able to help you! •

  2. ok mac is god just fyi although im sure you already know and d**n i know how you feel about oily skin i have it hate... 1st trick i have is aloe vera gel helps keep the oil at bay...straight from the plant is better but boy it stinks so i just went to wal-mart and bought a bottle of aloe vera gel found by the suntan lotion mostly and i put that on right after i wash my face...

and as far as concealer i have mac and it lasts forever the best way to put it on for me is my fingers...product gets trapped in the bristles and you sometimes get streaks and end up using your finger anyways but if your definetly adamant about a brush- go to sephora they have really good brushes not too cheap but less than mac brushes and o try photo finish by smashbox for oily skin feels amazing and you dont need much but good luck!!

  3. I didnt read ur Q

    but minneral foundation

  4. Moisturise the area really well (my dermatologist friends tell me that oiliness usually comes from the skin being dehydrated to begin with) with something like Aveeno (or another brand labeled to reduce redness).

And, as another person said, any green concealer will cut the appearance of redness.

  5. Ya ur Q was too long..but I use Bare minerals concealer and it works great.

  6. MAc concealer is made in heaven. Mary Kay is pretty good too.

i believe Kroger has efl brushes which are like $1 each or so, they are cheap but really good

  7. I have combination skin and some acne scarring. I use Physicians Formula's Concealer Twins. One side is for covering unsightly marks(like scars and dark circles) while the other not only covers zits but helps clear that area of skin. I usually put my regular concealer over it. I use CG's Clean Makeup (oil control). The CG concealer is amazing, you could never tell that I was wearing it and it stays true all day. Both are liquid concealers so I would suggest spongey rounds for application.

  8. As far as the redness goes, using a green concealor on the problem areas cancels out the redness.
