  1. Not too good.... twinning is passed down through the MOTHER'S side of the family, not the father's.

There are only a couple of way that you can increase your chances of having twins:

    1. Have twins run through the mother's side of the family

Obviously, this isn't something that you can control

    2. Be of a taller height and/or weight

Women who are taller and/or weigh more tend to have a heigher instance of twinning. I wouldn't recommend gaining a whole lot of weight, though, as being overweight can significantly increase risks during birth.

    3. Be older when you get pregnant

The older you are, the more likely you are to have twins.

    4. Have many pregnancies

Women who have been pregnant four or more times are more likely to have twins than those who have only been pregnant once.

    5. Have twins already

If you've had twins once, you're much more likely to have twins again.

    6. Be of West African/Nigerian descent.

Those from West Africa have a higher rate of twinning than any other ethnic group.

    6. Eat a lot of yams and dairy products.

This one is debateable. Some studies outside of the U.S. (in West Africa, actually) found a tribe where yams and dairy is the main part of their diet, and they have the highest rate of multiple births in the world. However, it isn't really known whether it is their diet or if it's just the fact that it is genetic in that tribe, as studies done outside that tribe don't seem to indicate much a difference.

    7. Use fertility treatments.

Can't say I would recommend this one. Few (if any) doctors would be willing to put you on fertility treatments just because you want to have twins. And, even those women who are on fertility treatments don't just wind up having twins, many wind up with triplets, quads, or more, which gets to the point where it is EXTREMELY dangerous.

So, there are really only 7 ways to increase your chances of having twins. Most of them you can't control, and those that you an control give no guarantees, and are sketchy at best.

  2. My mum and dad are both twins but non of me or my brothers or sisters have twins.

  3. There's a slight increase in your chances, as twins usually skip generations. However, I am a twin, my aunts are twins, and my nan's sister was a twin, so there's no generation-skipping in my family. There is evidence to suggest that there is a genetic predisposition to twins, but if you don't have a history of multiple births in your family, your chances won't be increased by that huge a margin.

  4. It depends on if he's a fraternal or identical twin.  If he's an identical twin, you chances are not affected, since identical twins are completely random and occur when a fertilized egg splits.  Fraternal twins occur when someone inherits the jean of "hyper-ovulation", in that they release more than one egg at once, which gets fertilized.

If one of you or a relative is a fraternal twin, your chances increase.  Your chances also increase if...

One of you is of African descent

You yourself eat lots of yams or dairy

    You are tall

    You conceive while breastfeeding

The more you weigh or the older you are (17% of mothers over 45 have multiples (twins or more), and the chances increase to 1 in 9 after 50)

You use reproductive technology or take fertility drugs

  5. There are twins in my family. My mom's an identical twin, so are her cousins. The twins then skipped a generation and my sister had identical twins. My partners mom was an identical twin also, so we both had identical twin mothers, but we haven't had twins. It is supposed to skip generations, and that has been the case with our family. On my fathers side there were no twins at all until last year when my cousin had identical twins. There's more chance of twins if there are on the mothers side, but less chance if on the mens. I just think if it's meant to be it will happen, as it was proved with my cousin and her twins :)

  6. Normally twins skips a generation but not always.  Try checking www.babycentre.co.uk, they have so much information on there they must have odds of having twins!

    good luck!

  7. This should tell you everything:

    Goodluck!

  8. Normally it skips generations. Like say for example like you said, your bf dad is a twin. That would mean your kid would have twins. But it could be possible. Or actually if your bf has an older brother, just one, you have chances. Like my sisters. There Mum is a twin and there nan is a triplet. Freaky, i know..

  9. It doesn't depend on the male as much as it depends on the female. Its a possibility though.Good luck!=)

  10. More likely. It also depends on family history... Does it skip a generation usually? Things like that.

  11. Same as someone else who doesn't have twins on the mother's side. I'm afraid your BF's sperm doesn't decide if you're going to accidentally release two eggs! SORRY (I'm in the same boat in terms of no genetic probability, and at 38, believe me, I'd love to have twins!!!)
