im in highschool and i am finding it hard to concentrate in math, most of my mistakes in exams are from basic stuff that i overlook (sleep is not a problem i get about 9 hours)

e.g take 4(4x+1) (x-2)

I got this wrong because of a simple like term/unlike terms mistake.

how do i stay focused and apply my brain?

  1. There was a time once when I completely forgot that there were terms on the other side of the equation.

Sometimes you overlook things no matter how focused you are. The only thing you can do is to go back to it and review your solution against the given equation to see if it makes sense.

  2. you should do many exercises and be focus in math class
