  1. As we have to pay out of pocket for all energy consumption here, we use only what we need. We have little choice but to use what is offered and locally avaiable to use.

    Very few people I know throw their money away wasting energy use. Even the days of "cruising" the roads are rare. Although I know some younger people who cruise the road with friends for fun.  (guess they got extra spending cash for gas)

In my country, Zimbabwe, the attitude of people towards energy consumption, I think has primarily been shaped by the unavailability of options.  See, we only have very limited sources of energy.  Of late the country has seen outages of electricity thus forcing the majority of the urban population to use firewood as an alternative source of energy for heating.  This has had a ripple effect of desertification.
