  1. The rules do not allow you to place yourself in check much less checkmate.

  2. iT IS NOT A LEGAL MOVE TO PLACE YOURSELF INTO CHECK,as the rules of chess state otherwise

  3. When attempting an illegal move (like placing yourself into check or not getting your king out of check in a non-mate scenario), your opponent (or the game server if you're online) should call you on the error.

Once called, you undo the last move & your clock gets restarted immediately upon calling.  This is usually the case for causal gameplay.

In tournament gameplay, you may incur a penalty set by the tournament director.  This can result anywhere from a 1-minute penalty or 1-minute bonus to your opponent (fairly standard) to disqualification of the offending player (extremely strict & rarely used).

When flagging an illegal move in a tournament game, the clock is stopped while the tournament director is called in for the official judgment.  ONLY THE TOURNAMENT DIRECTOR CAN ENFORCE THE PENALTY IN THIS CASE!

Usually players just resolve the issue themselves without invoking time penalties as it tends to disrupt the tournament schedule (calling the tournament director, resetting the clock to the proper time, ect.).  Most tournaments only tend give players a 5-minute break between matches if they push the time limits.  So a tournament with time limits of Game/30 (for example) will pace out matches in 65-minute intervals (30 per side + 5 for the break).

Again, the penalties only occur in tournament gameplay if the player(s) choose to invoke their right.  Causal gameplay usually don't have penalties unless it's agreed upon prior to starting.

  4. It's not legal to move into check.

  5. You can not move into check.

If done repeatedly the TD can penalize you.  It is often a 2 minute penalty.

  6. you can't put your self in check mate, check mate is where you can't get out of check in one move, it's against the rules and if you can put your self in it, you can get out of it, so even if it was legal it couldn't happen, and if the time clock runs out on your turn, you loose.
