Question:

Concerning Prostheses?

Most people should be familiar with prostheses, such as prosthetic limbs or artificial hearts. What future could they, and the field of biomechatronics, have? From what I gather, prosthetic limbs are currently inferior to natural human organs, as they are less dexterous, inconvenient, etc.

However, at the rate of scientific advancement that we are currently experiencing, how far away are prostheses superior to our own natural body parts? What's your opinion on the morality of implementing them? Would you trade a natural limb or organ for a superior prosthetic equivalent? What social and emotional reprecussions would they have? Opinions?

  1. Prostheses remain in limbo (sorry) between wars; improve exponentially after them. The worse the war -- the better the prostheses.
