Concerning traffic lanes. What does HOV mean?

HOV stands for high-occupancy vehicle.  It is usually used during rush hours for carpoolers and sometimes buses.  They are also known as diamond lanes, where insted of having HOV they will show a diamond symbol.

as you know there is a HOV lane on many highways in large citys but what it stands for is "high occupancy vehicles'' or for carpoolers

You see what it means...Check the signs for the number of occupants required to use the HOV lanes...Most of the time it is 2, but sometimes it is 3.
