Question:

Concerns About My Braces?

by  |  earlier

I've had braces for almost 2 years now and things are going great, but at the same time I'm a little bit worried. I was always told that you should continue going to the dentist but my parents never brought me because they were too "busy." I'm worried because I'm wondering if dentists did necessary cleanings around the braces, and if my teeth are sure to be stained.

My orthodontist hasn't said anything about my teeth looking dirty or anything, and has actually said they look very clean and white, so should I be more concerned about stains once they are removed ?

  1. if you brush regularly AND FLOSS

then the staining wont be too bad

everyone has a bit of staining after but just get crest white strips and your teeth will be nice :)

not going to the dentist is just affecting you being more apt to getting cavaties so you might want a check up soon :)

  2. I had my braces for about 4 years and went to the dentist once during that time. I have no stains. Dentists do nothing really spacial to people with braces.

  3. I have braces and just a few weeks ago I got my teeth cleaned with the braces. They just clean around them. But yes you should continue going getting your regular check ups and cleanings while you have braces. But if your parents aren't going to take you then continue to brush very good, and also if you can use the floss threader (I find using the threaders difficult though.) They should be coming off fairly soon if you've had them for 2 years, so just wait till they come off and have a super good cleaning, You will for sure want to then b/c of the glue feeling left behind by the braces.

  4. you should still have regular cleaning like twice every year even if you have braces and that you keep it clean all the time. there are things that cannot be seen by the naked eye and only the dentist can see through xrays and examination.

you should tell your parents that it is necessary for you to keep your dental appointments esp. when it's time for your ortho adjustment for the ff. reasons: loose/ broken brackets, shortened wires (due to teeth movement), etc.

the dentist can also assess and take note any improvements/ movements of teeth and can plan what to do for your next appointment.

once the braces are taken off, the teeth becomes yellowish. you can have you teeth whitened. just ask your dentist.

  5. my daughter has braces, she see's the orthodontist  every 8 weeks she also see's her regular dentist every 6 months

  6. You must get your teeth cleaned if you have braces! If you don't, you'll get more cavities than you know what to do with. The orthodonist may not be looking at your teeth in the same way that a regular dentist is. Get a cleaning asap!!!
