Concerns lifted about Apart, as he works out nicely before the Whitney Handicap at Saratoga
The 4-year-old son of Flatter Apart is at the Saratoga main course for the summer, and his long strides over the main course send positive vibes to trainer Albert Stall Jr. who was earlier concerned about the colt not getting along or not be able to handle
the Spa.
Mostly, because this is Apart’s first trip at the Spa in his 13 career starts, he has never raced at the Saratoga main course, but now he is here to for several weeks to participate in the Grade 1 $750,000 Whitney Handicap on 6 August, 2011.
The Adele Dilschneider owned Apart did an easy breeze with jockey Julien Leparoux, when the pair covered the distance of half a mile in 49.86 seconds.
Trainer Albert Stall must have had his fears allayed after his combination for the Whitney working half a mile in super time, plus Apart showing all the positive signs that he loves the track.
Stall earlier said that it is natural to be worried when you bring a horse to the Saratoga race track for the first time.
Last year Stall had another colt called Blame, who also ran in the Whitney Handicap, but the concern didn’t take that much hype for Blame because he already had run the Curlin at Saratoga.
Albert Stall thinks Apart likes the big race track here at Saratoga and, he looks comfortable on it with his long strides showing that he likes what he feels under his feet.
Apart has had a pretty good 2011, despite a lone win all of his 5 starts this season, he has managed to finish all the five races on the card. He has had 2 runners up finishes twice finishing third and just once crossing the wire first out of five starts.
That lone win came in the Grade 3 Schaefer Handicap at Pimlico race course on dirt. The race was run over at a distance of 1 1/16 miles on 21 May, 2011. Under jockey Garrett Gomez Apart covered the distance in a good 1 minute and 43.70 seconds.
Apart is the son of Flatter out of Detach by Unbridled, had his recent start in the all important Grade Stephen Foster Handicap under Julien Leparoux, the pair were valiant in defeat as they surged late to target the two contenders to take the race, Mission
Impazible and Pool Play.
But the surge came a little too late as both of them never gave an inch to Apart and, he finished third over at the distance of 1 1/8 miles at Churchill Downs on 18 June, 2011.
This will be Apart’s sixth race of the season, and the trainer hinted that they don’t have to play catch up, they just have to keep him fresh.
