Ok so I just found out about the cat litter thing. I'm probably about month and half or so along. But my concern is I own quite a few animals. I'll make a list at the bottom. I need to know if there is anything to worry about? if you know of any links with more information please post them!

I own just about everything you can think of:

Dogs

Cats

Ferrets

A gerbil

Snakes

Lizards

And frogs

  1. For the reptile's you should have a germ killer hand gel, for the rest, just make sure they aren't sick and you should be fine.

  2. It sounds like all your animals will be fine to be around while you are pregnant.  And about the cat litter, it is best to keep away from the cat f***s due to risk of toxoplasmosis.  But it's also true that if you have lived with a cat for a while before you got pregnant then you probably have already contracted the disease and are immune from it.  Still a good excuse to get someone else to clean the little though!  (I read this in What to Expect When You're Expecting, you can look at their site http://www.whattoexpect.com/what-to-expe...  But other than that your animals are fine.  The only other animal that I have heard problems with are sheep after they have lambs because they carry something that can cause a miscarriage (I worked on a farm).  Just be sure to wash your hands frequently and after handling them to be safe.

  3. Like cat litter, be very careful with any animal urine/faeces. When cleaning these animals habitats (if you have to) it is wise to wear gloves and a mask. As far as handling them is concerned, always wash your hands afterwards and dont let animals near your mouth (thats what I was told anyway!)

  4. I only know about avoiding all animal poo and the cat litter thing.

  5. Everything else should be fine. I have a African Grey and a yorkie. But the cat thing that everyone has mentioned..yea thats a big no no. have someone else chang the kitty box... too many chemicals.
