Conch Shell... and meanings of the blows.. to start wedding!?

I hear it's a secret and I was hoping if anyone had any information about the meanings of the blows for a conch shell!

or at the very least how many times and what direction to START a wedding??

  1. There are so many meanings to the Conch shell.  In the Caribbean, it is blown at sunset to herald out the day.  Basically, it was a great day.  Thanks to whatever deity you like.

    However it is a tradition in many other areas as well and many Buddhist areas.

    In Hawaii, they actually play a song on it.  Real music.

    So it really depends on you and what you are interested in.

    However in Key West, I traditionally heard it blown 4 times--north, south, east, and west, to start a wedding.

    My suggestion--buy a conch horn.  They are modified to be actual horns and are much easier to play.  A musician could cost you $200 if you could find someone.

    A FL beach wedding site I was just at had the Best Man blow the horn and the couples first kiss is for as long as he can blow the conch shell.
