Conciliatory wins the Brighton Mile for trainer Rae Guest – The feature race of the August festival
The 4-year-old grey filly, Conciliatory, grabbed her third win for trainer Rae Guest when she placed in the John Smith’s Brighton Mile Challenge Trophy Handicap on 3 August, 2011, at Brighton racecourse over a distance of 1 mile, form good to firm.
The daughter of Medicean ran powerfully under jockey, Adam Beschizza, who firmly rode the filly to land the race, the feature race of the August festival.
The Miss K Rausing owned filly was sent off as a 10 to 1 favourite to win the Brighton Mile as she headed the field of 15 horses on the first day of the track’s most popular festival.
It was a late surge from the pair as the 4-year-old bay gelding, Green Earth, was almost assured of victory.
The son of Cape Cross, Green Earth, was ridden by jockey Fergus Sweeney as the pair took keen control of the race.
The pair was challenged over at a furlong out, but then shook off their rivals and took off to a considerable lead. Meanwhile Conciliatory, who tracked leaders in the beginning, got ridden out 3 furlongs out under Adam Beschizza.
After the break, the Goodwood specialist Mujood and Bold Marc assumed the leaders position, but Green Earth bolted at the right time to take over them with two furlongs to go.
Conciliatory was quickly in pursuit, and showed her mettle as she competed with Green Earth stride per stride. Rae Guest filly certainly had more in reserve as she surged past her rival Green earth to win the race by a mere 1 ¼ lengths.
The Brighton Mile is staged as the most valuable race of the venue, making it the starter for the three day festival held at Brighton racecourse.
Conciliatory won her last race way back in 2010, when she competed in the EBF Totepool Fillies’ Stakes Handicap at York on 18 August, 2011.
It was also run at a mile over a good surface. Under jockey Martin Dwyer, the pair led the race throughout and won comfortably in the end.
It was a much needed win for Conciliatory and her connections after a series of lowly performances from the fall of 2010 up till the win at Brighton.
