Question:

Concrete base for paver patio?

We've had two companies come out to do bids on a paver patio for our house. One of the companies mentioned pouring a concrete base for the patio and the other did not. I assume that having concrete poured would be an additional cost, so what is the benefit of doing this? Does it make for a more structurally sound patio? We are in Missouri, so there will be lots of rain, snow, freezing and thawing.

  1. Pouring concrete then putting pavers over it is a bad idea. You need a good deep compacted sand base which will allow the pavers to move slightly,as they should, with the climate changes.

  2. i live in IL,and Ive done alot of paved patios,we use sand or lime for base,u don't need concrete, they should pack whichever they use,i recommend lime
