Concussion symptoms: Jacksonville Jaguars WR Cecil Shorts faces uncertain future – NFL News
The Jacksonville Jaguars have confirmed return of concussion symptoms of wide receiver Cecil Shorts, taking him out the line-up that faces the New York Jets for a home game this Sunday (Dec. 09).
Cecil suffered concussion last week and later joined the teammates for practice after clearing all tests. He again hit the field for more workout on Friday but was taken off the squad because he still carried symptoms of the injury.
It is always difficult to predict full recovery from concussion because of symptoms, they have returned and remain for a longer period after the recovery.
The news does not bode well with the team’s hopes to improve their record in the closing games of the season. It is also not a good development for the player’s own record. He just needs 176 more receiving yards to become only third receiver in the franchise
history to go over 1,000 yards in a season.
He with the 824 yards stands second in the league. He is also the only player who has caught the ball for 50 and over yards passes. He is the main offensive player, and his absence will have an impact on the side’s performance.
The Jags are at bottom of American Football Conference (AFC) South with only two wins so far. They have lost some of easily winnable games. The remaining four games are even more difficult for them to win given they have lost their offence leader Blaine
Gabbert to an injury. He is not going to return this season at all, while running back Maurice Jones-Drew is uncertain.
It is even more difficult to predict Shorts’ return. If he is out of the squad for another couple of games the season is almost over for him. They have three more games to go after this weekend, when they host the Jets.
Meanwhile, the team has not divulged much on replacement option at Shorts’ place. Rookie receiver Justin Blackmon might start versus the Jets, but coach Mike Mularkey is reluctant at the moment to name him the starter. Apparently, there is no other option
in front of him.
